Who’s up for burgers? Last month we visited Flip Side at Easton to write about their brunch for the Dispatch; you can read the review here. As usual, I wanted to share our own thoughts and photos.
Flip Side is a small chain of burger joints that originated out of Hudson, Ohio. The Easton location is their second, and so far the only one in the Columbus area. It’s situated near the southwest quadrant of Easton, close to LifeTime Fitness, World of Beer, Panera, etc.
The restaurant itself is pretty spacious, with a large dining room, a huge bar, and a small patio outside. We arrived right at the start of brunch, and it was pretty quiet.
You’re pretty well taken care of in the drinks category. I was surprised by their beer list; it featured a nice balance of local, Ohio, and a few choice national beers. Note the cold brewed Thunderkiss coffee on tap.
I had a pint of North High’s Thunderkissed milk stout – one of my favorites of theirs – while Beth enjoyed a Bloody Mary and the kids had orange juice.
The actual brunch menu is only four items + a whole list of sides, and the full lunch menu is available, too.
If Bloody Marys are your thing, they offer a build-your-own bar. We just ordered the house Bloody Mary; it was good but very strong.
And then we sampled most of the brunch menu. The chicken and waffles were better at chicken than waffles. The chicken was nice and crispy, while the waffles were a little soft and spongy.
They offer three different types of eggs benedicts, with veggies, fried chicken, or the traditional Canadian bacon. We took the veggie route; it was nicely executed but needed more salt. Although we did like the crispy side of potatoes.
The real star of the brunch – as you might expect from a burger place – was the brunch burger. It didn’t break any new ground, but it was put together very well, from the burger itself to the cheese to the crispy bacon and hash browns, to the runny egg.
It’s hard to beat a sexy egg yolk like this.
The burger was a mess to eat, but we didn’t mind.
Our kiddos also wanted to try the mac and cheese (because, you know, they’re children in America). It was nice and creamy, and benefited from some chili on top.
Brunch was pretty fun and casual at Flip Side, with good food and drinks. Worth the visit!
